Our training sessions are designed to improve speed, stamina, agility and running form. Sessions include:
Pyramids, for example: 400m, 500m, 600m, 500m, 400m and repeat (with rests between each effort)
Intervals, for example: 400m effort, 1 minute rest x10
Stamina session, for example: 1 lap at 5k race pace, 1 lap recovery pace, repeat for 30 minutes
Agility sessions (think running around cones...)
Exercises to focus on running form
During summer we run every week on the grass running track at Mountbatten School.
In winter we run at the industrial estate on Premier Way (see map below); during winter the first Tuesday of the month is a road run, meeting at Halterworth School instead of the industrial estate (map below).
We are currently in WINTER mode.
Hills are your friend! It may be tough, but hill training has numerous benefits: improved stamina, improved leg strength, improved cadence... the list goes on.
Meet at the top of Seward Rise (map below) for an 8k/5m run taking in some of Romsey's finest hills: Campion Drive, Richmond Hill, Durban Close and Botley Road. Each hill is done twice - just remember, what goes up must come down!
This session doesn't run every week. Members will be updated via WhatsApp when the session is going ahead.
We usually have two weekend social runs (although they are subject to change). Members will be kept up to date via WhatsApp.
Saturdays at Ganger Farm parkrun
Sundays at 9am from Halterworth School (except first Sunday of the month when we head further afield)
The Sunday runs are at a comfortable pace and usually involve stops for photos and chats. All speeds and abilities are welcome. Distances are usually 8 to 10k, but occasionally the mood takes us to go on further or to cut it short. Once a month or so we car share and run a little further afield. Recent trips have included the New Forest, Braishfield, Mottisfont, Farley Mount, Bournemouth beach, the Test Way and the Clarendon Way. At least one run ended with cake, and another with a swim; all were friendly and fun.
No matter what the day, and sometimes regardless of the weather, one of us will be heading out for a social or race training run. We use our active WhatsApp group to plan ad hoc runs.
Summer training - Tuesdays 6.15 to 7pm - every week
Mountbatten School running track (on the field behind the school).
Winter training - Tuesdays 6:15 to 7pm
(EXCEPT first Tuesday of the month meet at Halterworth School)
Abbey Park Industrial Estate (come off the roundabout onto Premier Way and take the first right).
Year round social runs -Sundays 9am
Winter training on the first Tuesday of the month only
