Mark Jackson - Chair & Treasurer

Like many people I started running later in life. Mainly because I was inspired to try to run a marathon after seeing the one in Brighton where I used to live. After running 4 marathons I decided that was enough, so I now stick to half Marathons or 10km events. Running is a great way to get out and exercise and with Halterworth Harriers I find there is also always someone free to run with. I love the social aspect this brings and it allows me to eat more cake! I must admit I am a parkrun addict, you will find me at Ganger Farm most Saturday mornings at 9am and if not there I am sure to be running somewhere.

Paul Garland - Secretary & lead coach

Hi, I'm Paul. I used to hate the thought of running, preferring other sports, but my wife nagged me for 6 months until I joined the Harriers way back in November 2004. Running then changed for me. Instead of it being something to hate, I grew to love it, encouraged and motivated by the people I ran with, until now it is something I would miss terribly if I couldn't do it. I have proven to myself that even in middle age, it is still possible to improve and set PBs. I thoroughly enjoy races, particularly the inter-club cross-country ones, where being part of a team is as important as your own individual performance.

verity pillinger-cork - membership and comms

I'm Verity and I joined the club in 2021. I started running in 2019 to keep fit, and soon discovered I appreciate the motivation that comes with club membership! I don't enter many races, but I do like to run as part of a Harriers team - in the CC6 and RR10 series and the fantastic Romsey Relay Marathon. More recently I've discovered a love for trail running; it's hard to beat a Sunday run through the New Forest with excellent Harriers company of course!

billy ault - welfare

I’m Billy and I fulfil the role of Welfare. After a knee injury I took a 15 year break from any sport until I realised how out of shape I was just pushing a pram around. A friend helped me through couch to 5K and then we joined the Harriers. A few years later I managed to run a marathon, something I never thought I would do. The Harriers provide an encouraging group to suit everybody and my favourite time of the week is the Sunday social run. I may not be as fast or have as much stamina as I would like but I know that the more I put in, the better I feel.

liz beverley - Kit

Hi, I'm Liz, and I'm a fair weather runner. That's not quite true, but I do find it much easier to go out when the sun is shining! As a full-time working, busy mum of two, fitting in a run around work and family life can sometimes be tricky, but I always feel better when I do. I'm a huge believer in the virtues of getting outside (#GetOutside), and the Harriers are always there to support and motivate, when you need to do just that.

suzanne gardner - social

I'm Suzanne and I was persuaded to join the Harriers in 2011 and haven't looked back since!

I have done lots of races including several full and half marathons and I was lucky enough to get a club ballot place in the London Marathon in 2013. Team events such as the RR10/CC6 leagues and the Romsey Relay Marathon are my absolute favourites. I also enjoy being part of the committee as social secretary, and I write articles for the Romsey Advertiser. Joining the Halterworth Harriers is one of the best things I've ever done and I'd highly recommend it; maintaining fitness and motivation are key benefits but also making lifelong friendships along the way.

kirsty stickley - social

Hi I'm Kirsty, part of the Committee and joined the Harriers in 2015 after taking part in the Romsey Relay Marathon. Up until that point, I was never a keen runner but since joining the Harriers it has motivated me to sign up to a range of different events and challenges. I have made some wonderful friends and there's always someone to run with. In October 2021, I completed the virtual London Marathon, which I never thought was achievable. Having my fellow Harriers to accompany me en route enabled me to achieve this!
